"Capital punishment is against the better judgment of modern criminology and, above all, against the highest expression of love in the nature of God."

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

our work

We work to equip faith leaders and churches with the knowledge, stories and data they need to have meaningful conversations about the American Capital Punishment system.

Learning
We educate grasstops leaders about the unequal application of death sentences and demand accountability from governors, judges, prosecutors, elected officials, and systems that uphold state sponsored death. We promote narratives that are person-first to inform policymakers and faith leaders of the death penalty's true issues.

Legislation

We work as policy professionals, grassroots lobbyists and strategists to write, research and champion state and nation-wide legislation that eliminates the use of the death penalty.

Litigation

We support active legal teams with strategies to stop executions, court watch hearings and bring awareness to death penalty cases through private/public advocacy with faith communities, coordinated communications, and social media campaigns.

words from friends

Rev. Sharon Risher

The church stresses forgiveness, but will pick and choose who should be forgiven. Jesus said we all are given the opportunity to be redeemed and forgiven. Even the person who killed my mother!

Justice is not a distraction from the gospel, it's a demonstration of the gospel

CeCe Jones Davis

The Black Church is called to stand for life and dignity in the face of injustice. Ending the death penalty is a moral imperative rooted in our faith, our history, and our commitment to a justice that heals rather than harms.

Demetrius Minor, Executive Director of Conservatives Concerned, preacher and author

The black church heralds a rich legacy in being a voice for equality and justice. That voice is wanted and needed even more today in the fight to end capital punishment in the United States. The death penalty only offers retribution, pain and anguish and serves as an antagonist of the very principles and values that the church should be uplifting.

U.S Campaign to End the Death Penalty

Throughout our country's history, Black pastors have played a major role in effectively advocating for change, driving us towards a more just society. Their witness, testimony and moral authority is respected by people from across the political and ideological spectrum.

In these current times, FLOCC has made tremendous impact speaking out about problems with the death penalty and it's historical connection to lynching and slavery. I am grateful and proud to partner with FLOCC in the U.S Campaign to End the Death Penalty
